Four Youths Arrested By Military In Southern Chin State Still Missing

Four youths from a village in Matupi Township have been missing since the military arrested them in southern Chin State on August 20 and 22.

Their families have been unable to contact the youths from the village Chang Pyan, and no one knows where the soldiers are holding them.

"It's been three days since the youths were arrested and still they haven't been taken to the police station. No one knows where they were held after soldiers arrested them at a checkpoint," a local source close to them told Khonumthung News.

Lae Lae Win, a young woman was arrested on August 20 and released the same day. The military is keeping Dezin Thang, Htel Twi, Htawng Pein and Sang Thein, who were arrested at two checkpoints. Three males were taken on the same day as Lae Lae Win and one was arrested on August 22.

The Burma Army has still not released five youths who were arrested in Mutupi town in early April for allegedly protesting against the regime.

In the same month, the Chinland Defence Force opened chapters across Chin State to defend civilians who were peacefully resisting the dictatorship. Since then, there's been fighting with the military in Mindat and Matupi townships and in the north.
