Four junta personnel killed in attack on checkpoint in Sagaing’s Monywa Township

Four junta personnel, three soldiers and a police officer, were killed and three soldiers were injured at a checkpoint near to an old people’s home in Nat Luu Htaik Pan Ward, in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township on 27 April, according to the Chindwin Attack Force (CAF) based in Monywa District.

The checkpoint was attacked from close range by the CAF at 10 am on 27 April. The CAF suffered no casualties and managed to retreat successfully.

The police and soldiers at the checkpoint were stopping vehicles, inspecting them and demanding money from people, according to the CAF, who said that anyone associated with the junta who was making trouble for people would be killed, wherever they were in the area.

The attack on the checkpoint was a joint operation carried out by battalions 2,3 and 4 of the CAF and other local groups.

The same force also previously attacked a military convoy guarded by about 30 junta troops on the Monywa- Ar Yartaw Road near Suelay Kone Chaung on 26 April. According to a CAF source three junta soldiers were injured in the attack.
