Local residents are facing difficulties in livelihood and rehabilitation after their homes, farms, and plantations were damaged by the recent flood in the village around A Htet San Kaung in Putao Township, Kachin State.
Local resident U Awng Kham told K.N.G that the flash flood prompted by heavy rain damaged 17 homes and farms and plantations, causing livelihood difficulties among the local residents.
“We still couldn’t do anything for rehabilitation. Some farms have been damaged. Homes have also been damaged. They couldn’t do anything to repair them. Medicine is needed for the children. The children are able to attend school now, but their families are facing many difficulties at home,” he said.
Although he heard that the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has provided Ks 10 million for the flood-affected victims, they have not received any assistance up to now.
Youths from various Christian organizations in Putao have been assisting the flood-affected victims as much as they can by raising fund, U Awng Kham added.
Over 400 homes were inundated in Ah Htet San Kaung, Lon Mu Dam, War Sar, Mon Ngo, and Pu Taung villages and nearby villages due to heavy rain on September 9.
