Father injured, two sons killed in Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway accident

A Rohingya father was injured and his two sons killed in a road accident between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Howaikong Balukhali under Teknaf Upazila on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway on September 2, 2019, according to Sharif Hasan, a sub-inspector of Nayapara Highway Police.

The incident took place around 12:45 pm in the Balukhali area when the Teknaf-bound pick-up van of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) hit an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, leaving the two Rohingya brothers – 17-year-old Mohamed Ayub and 25-year-old Mohamed Nur -- dead on the spot and critically injuring their father, 45-year-old Amir Hamza and four others: Abul Hosain, Dildar Begum, 7-year-old Zobaer and the 28-year-old rickshaw driver Shamsul Alam, said Sharif Hasan.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Save the Children Healthcare in the nearby Chakmar Kul area. Later they were shifted to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where the driver Shamsul succumbed to his injuries, the official also said.

The deceased Rohingya brothers are residents of Nayapara Shalbagan Rohingya Refugee Camp.
