Electricity has been cut off in the flood-affected areas in Hpa-an and villages in the Karen (Kayin) State to prevent electrical hazards, an official from the state electrical engineering office said to KIC News.
“Electricity has been cut off after flood water entered 66 kv sub-station in Hpa-yar-gone at 9 am this morning. This sub-station has been distributing power to 50 villages in the surrounding of Hpa-yar-gone. Electricity has been cut off in the low-lying areas in Hpa-an, which has been inundated. I want to tell the people not to go near transformers, which have voltage, and inform us if power lines have fallen,” he told KIC News on July 30.
Electricity has been cut off in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 9th wards in Hpa-an and also along the Strand Road, Htone Ai, and Mein-ma-hla-kyun areas, according to the state electrical engineering office.
Residents living in the flood-affected areas in Hpa-an said they are facing difficulties in cooking and charging mobile phones since the electricity has been cut off for many days and it is difficult to rent boats for transportation.
