Following an offensive on the headquarters of the Junta's 15th Military Operations Command (MOC-15), which had been under siege by the Arakha Army (AA) for an extended duration, hundreds of Junta forces, including the deputy division commander and their families, had surrendered, AA stated in a video announcement.
The video released on May 6 stated that the Junta soldiers who surrendered, including the deputy division commander, were spared from total elimination as they surrendered in a situation where they were decisively defeated and had no means of escape.
According to an AA source, hundreds of Junta soldiers were killed during the battle to capture MOC-15, and AA fighters are now fervently pursuing the remaining soldiers who managed to escape.
"AA comrades are now chasing the fleeing soldiers. Hundreds of bodies of the Junta forces were also discovered in the aftermath of the battle”, the source said.
In the video released by AA, alongside Junta soldiers, Muslim militiamen who had received military training from the Junta troops were also observed, with hundreds of soldiers surrendering altogether.
On May 4, AA announced the complete capture of MOC-15 and four battalions in Buthidaung, along with the Kyeekanpyin border guard police headquarters in Maungdaw Township.
AA has captured MOC-15 and several light infantry battalion bases in Buthidaung Township, while also occupying various strategic locations such as hill-based camps, border guard police battalions, and military fortifications in Maungdaw Township, prompting Rakhine political analysts to predict that the Buthidaung and Maungdaw regions could soon be under AA’s complete control.
On May 4 and 5, amidst escalating clashes in the Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas, 132 Junta troops sought refuge in Bangladesh, bringing their weapons with them.
