According to a military source, a Military Council convoy carrying a District Police Major was hit from a landmine attack between Baw Yae Oo and Thein Kone villages in the Ywangan Township, Danu Self-Administered Zone, Southern Shan State.
On October 21, around 8:00 a.m., the Danu People's Liberation Front (DPLF) carried out a landmine attack, as Military Council troops were heading back from their camp at the Yan Bway betel nut farm in Ywangan Township.
"We received information from their community that a District Police Major was struck immediately after the landmine explosion. Subsequently, it was verified that he was a District Police Captain who was targeted in the landmine attack. This information has also been confirmed by military sources," stated a DPLF information officer.
The landmine attack damaged two out of the four vehicles used by the Military Council troops, and one individual died on the spot.
Following the landmine attack, DPLF opened fire with small arms, resulting in six more individuals sustaining serious injuries. The injured were subsequently transported to Ywangan Public Hospital, and the 700-bed Aungban Military Hospital.
While undergoing medical treatment, these six all died on the evening of October 22, as confirmed by a military source.
The Military Council has disclosed the identities of the deceased individuals, who are Taunggyi District Police Captain U Soe Than, Corporal U Myo Min, Privates December Ko Ko, Arkar Aung, Soe Min Oo, and three Pyu Saw Htee militias.
The mission was planned two days ahead utilizing information from informers and the DPLF successfully withdrew without any injuries.
"We had to cancel several missions and encountered many we could not carry out due to the proximity of civilians. This is why we urge all residents in the Danu region to stay away from the Military Council," the DPLF information officer continued.
According to eyewitnesses, following the landmine attack, the Military Council has increased surveillance along the Ywangan-Yeu road, and on October 22, two men were apprehended by the Military Council troops.
On September 26, the DPLF launched a surprise attack on Military Council troops stationed in Ba Htoo Township and Lawksawk (Yatsauk) Township, leading to the casualties of three soldiers.
