The Chin State Hluttaw’s deputy speaker U Aung Than said the construction of a new building for the Chin State Hluttaw is 45 percent complete.
“After the construction completed in the 2017-2018 budget year, there are still small items that were not included in the drafting of the budget, such as fire protection system, CCTV, and audio system. We need to include systems to prevent echoes in the parliament meeting hall and also furniture. These requirements are to be carried out in the next fiscal year. The current budget covers everything for the building, drainage, and electricity items,” said U Aung Than.
He added that the new building will also include a place for the media to cover the parliamentary news and seats for observers of the parliamentary sessions.
The Chin State Hluttaw Speaker has earlier said that the Chin State Hluttaw currently shares the building with the Chin State government as there is no separate building for the state hluttaw and the media has not been allowed to cover the parliamentary news due to lack of space. The media will only be allowed to cover the news independently after the new building is completed.
The new hluttaw building is over 70,000 cubic feet wide and it is being built at a cost of over five billion kyats.
