Civilians Sustain Injuries Amid Muse Township Battle

Civilians sustained injuries during the conflict between the Military Council troops and the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Muse Township, Shan State.

On the afternoon of August 2, a battle between the TNLA and 10 military vehicles, comprising over 100 joint forces from the Military Council and militia, resulted in the death of two militiamen. The confrontation took place near Lower Tont Hkan village, located between Muse and the 105-mile trade zone.

Following a landmine attack, the Artillery Battalion stationed in the 105-mile trade zone in Muse Township responded by launching artillery shells, one of which struck a house located within the trade zone. As a result, a woman was injured by shrapnel from the artillery shell and subsequently transported to the Muse Public Hospital, as reported by a local source in Muse to SHAN news.

At present, certain residents from the village are seeking refuge in Muse urban area and at Namaum Kachin Baptist Church.

The site where the Military Council and militias came under attack from landmines is situated on the road that stretches from the 105-mile trade zone to the Kyin San Kyawt gate at the China-Myanmar border.

Likewise, on the morning of August 2, renewed clashes occurred between the Military Council and TNLA near the base of Loi Taay Main mountain, in the Seilant village-tract of Muse Township. The Military Council forces stationed in Muse Township, along with those stationed on Sutaung Mountain from Homun Ward, engaged by firing artillery shells.

Additionally, residents from the area informed SHAN that an artillery shell exploded near a house adjacent to the Seilant village market due to the artillery fire. Tragically, both a woman and a child were injured by shrapnel from the artillery shell.

"Two artillery shells landed in Seilant, with one detonating in the yard, resulting in no damage. The second shell exploded in front of a house, causing shrapnel injuries to a child and a woman. Fortunately, the injuries were not severe," shared a resident of Seilant with SHAN.

Presently, a number of local residents from Seilant village-tract's south ward have sought refuge from the conflict at the Loi Taay Main Kanmathan Monastery.

SHAN has been unable to verify casualties independently resulting from the clashes between the Military Council troops and the TNLA.

Starting from the morning of August 2 and continuing until after 9:00 p.m., the residents of Muse reported hearing the sound of artillery shells being fired.

A local woman in Muse remarked, "The sounds of artillery shells have been echoing throughout the entire day. The noise is quite intense. The situation might escalate further. We need to exercise caution when venturing outside."

Fierce clashes between the Military Council troops and the TNLA have been ongoing in Muse township since July 23.
