Hakha Explosion Kills Six, Injures Nine

According to reports an explosion at a house in Hakha, the Chin State, capital killed six people and injured nine others at about 10.40pm on 22 November.

According to U Shwe Tiau from Hakha the explosion happened in U Jonathan's four storey house in New Market block. He said that the lower storeys were rented by Pu Neng Cin and his family and that the entire family of five and a guest who was staying with them were killed by the explosion.

He said: "The explosion happened at around 10.40pm last night [22 November]. The house was completely destroyed, but the house owner, U Jonathan and his family were not at home. The explosion even broke glass in church windows 100 yards away. Other houses near to the explosion were also damaged."

The people killed in the explosion were Pu Neng Cin (70) and his family members Pi Far Pen (64), Biak Cer Cin (35), Sui Hnem Thluai (20), Zing Hnem Sung (6). Pi Thong Thluai (50) from Thantlang Township was also killed in the explosion which also damaged five houses, a car and a jeep.

Although there was no confirmation of what caused the blast a local from Hakha said it could have been some form of gelignite.
