During ‘Operation Chin Brotherhood’ (Operation CB) led by the Chin Brotherhood Alliance in southern Chin State, resistance forces captured some Junta camps in downtown Matupi and accelerated the offensive to capture more major bases.
"Our operation aims to make Matupi a Junta-free area. The Junta is reinforcing their manpower, and conducting almost constant airstrikes. We have taken over some camps but cannot yet control the entire town. There have been casualties on both sides”, the information officer for the 1st Brigade of Chinland Defence Force – Matupi (CDF-Matupi) said.
Currently, resistance forces control sites like Matupi Police Station and the General Administration Office, but some Junta bases are still holding out resiliently.
The information officer of the 1st Brigade stated that while it is confirmed there were casualties on both sides during the fighting, the exact numbers are not yet available.
For almost a week since the clashes began, the Junta has been reinforcing Matupi and defending it with daily air raids.
In Matupi, the Junta has deployed two battalions and a tactical command. Currently, 'Operation CB' is targeting the Junta's 304th Infantry Battalion base, with clashes intensifying throughout the town.
"We are continuing our strong offensive against the Junta's battalions in Matupi, but they remain under their control”, the aforementioned information officer added.
Since the morning of June 9, 'Operation CB' has united the Chin Brotherhood Alliance, the 1st Brigade of CDF-Matupi, the Yaw Army (YA) based in Magway Region, and other revolutionary factions in a joint effort to capture the Junta targets.
The Arakha Army (AA) is also providing support to the Chin resistance forces during the clashes in Matupi.
Even before the clashes began in Matupi, residents from downtown wards and nearby villages had already fled to the Magway Region and Indian territory.
Lailenpi and Rezua towns in the Matupi township area already came under the control of Chin resistance forces by the end of last year.
Matupi shares borders with Magway Region to the east, Gangaw township and Tilin township to the east, Mindat township to the southeast, Paletwa township to the west, Mizoram State of India to the northwest, and Thantlang and Hakha to the north.
In Chin State, towns such as Rihkhawdar, Lailenpi, Rezua, Kyindwe, Cikha, and Tonzang have been attacked and taken over by Chin resistance forces, while towns like Waibula, Hnaring, M'Kuiimnu, and Sukhwar, where Junta troops withdrew, have also been captured.
