After a bomb was found on the campus of Basic Education Middle School No. 1 (formerly No. 14 School) in Taung Phi Lar Ward, Kale Township, Sagaing Region, the military apprehended nine local individuals in the vicinity of the school.
According to residents of Kale Township, on June 17, nine local individuals were arrested from the vicinity of the school after a bomb was discovered on the school campus. It has been reported that some of those who were arrested were subsequently released on June 20.
"The secretary and church guards of Tahan Baptist Church, located near the school, have been arrested. Additionally, individuals from the monastery in close proximity to the school were also detained. It appears that many of those arrested are residents residing near the school," a resident from Kale Township stated.
The resident further stated that among those who were arrested, the secretary and church guards of Tahan Baptist Church, as well as individuals apprehended from the monastery, were released on June 20. However, those who were arrested from houses surrounding the school have not yet been released.
According to residents of Taung Phi Lar Ward, the discovery of a bomb inside the School No. 14 campus has instilled fear among the attending students. Consequently, on the opening day of school, which was on June 19 (Monday), only a few students were present.
Chin World Media has stated that they have been unable to independently verify the responsible organization behind the planting of the bomb on the school campus.
Several residents of Kale Township have expressed strong condemnation towards the act of planting a bomb within the school campus.
A concerned parent from Kale Township expressed, "These schools are not military objectives. They are educational institutions attended by young students. It is absolutely unacceptable to plant or detonate bombs or engage in gunfire near schools. Those responsible for such actions are the ones undermining children's education."
Basic Education Middle School No. 1 (previously known as No. 14 School) in Taung Phi Lar Ward remained closed for a period of two years following the military coup.
The school reopened during the academic year of 2023-2024, and students have resumed attending classes.
On May 16, 2021, following the coup d'état, a fire broke out on the campus of Basic Education Middle School No. 1, resulting in damage to one of the school buildings.
