According to residents in Shwegu Township, Kachin State, four family members were injured when an artillery shell, fired from the Shwegu police station, exploded in a residential house.
A Shwegu resident informed KNG that approximately at 11:00 p.m. on November 15, five artillery shells were launched from the police station under the Military Council in Ward No. 2 of Shwegu Township. These shells were directed towards upper Lay Lan Sone in Shwegu Township, with one of them exploding in a house located behind the Shwegu police station.
"The artillery shells have been fired since around 11:00 p.m.. The one that exploded in a house was fired at 3:00 a.m. I don't know if it was deliberately aimed or if it didn't reach its intended target and fell nearby. It exploded just above a house behind the police station," explained the resident.
The artillery shell hit U Hla Thein's house located behind the Shwegu police station. U Hla Thein, along with his wife and two daughters, a total of four family members, sustained injuries from the shrapnel of the artillery shell.
"Ko Hla Thein, along with his wife, and two daughters were injured. The situation is not well known. All of them were sent to the hospital overnight. They are now in Shwegu Hospital," said the resident.
A man in his 40s residing in upper Lay Lan Sone informed KNG that , the police under the Military Council fired artillery shells based on information they received about the presence of People's Defense Forces (PDF) in Shwegu upper Lay Lan Sone.
"They fired artillery shells because they received information that PDFs were here. Three artillery shells fell near us, only 10-20 meters away from where we were staying. Fortunately, no one was hit," he explained.
On the night of November 14 in Shwegu Township, one of the artillery shells fired from the police station exploded on a house in Ward No. 2, resulting in the immediate death of a man and injuries to his wife and a child.
