Arakan Army Seizes Tatmadaw Hill Post, Captures 11 Soldiers in Paletwa

Arakan Army (AA) forces recently captured a strategic hill camp occupied by the Burma Army in Paletwa Township during clashes, also taking 11 Tatmadaw soldiers prisoner, according to a statement by the group.

The fighting occurred around five kilometers from Pyinso village in the Pee Chaung area of Paletwa in southern Chin State on the afternoon of March 9.

Clashes between the groups have been ongoing since the beginning of March in Paletwa.

The Burma Army’s Light Infantry Battalion 563, operating under Military Operation Command 5 based in Gwa Township in Rakhine State.

According to an AA statement, the battle for the hill was the most intense this month.

The AA also reportedly captured weapons and military equipment from government forces in the fighting.

These reportedly ranged from long-barrel guns to various types of ammunition to communication devices to a Toyota truck.

The 11 soldiers taken prisoner are still being questioned, the AA said in the statement.

Khonumthung News tried repeatedly to call AA spokesperson Khaing Thu Kha, but received no response.

At the time of reporting, the Tatmadaw had made no public comment about the incident.
