Resolving Myanmar’s current issues at a roundtable is the best solution, said Saw Mya Razar Lin, spokesperson for the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP).
“I think the conflict in Myanmar should be resolved by discussing it at a roundtable. We faced such a situation in 1988. So, authorities need to find a solution by negotiating,” Saw Mra Razar Lin said.
“No one sees the coup as a good act. We do not want that situation. Now, the country lacks stability. The situation might disrupt the development of the country and people will suffer much loss,” she added.
The ALP released a statement on February 14 urging authorities concerned to find a solution as fast as possible by taking the best interests of the country and the people into consideration.
The statement noted that the Tatmadaw seized power on February 1 by declaring a state of emergency, adding that it was a consequence of differing concepts and desires as well as doubts between the Tatmadaw and the National League for Democracy (NLD).
The ALP said it would seek to build a federal union by working with other ethnic nationals facing similar oppression, without accepting the military dictatorship.
For more than three decades, the party has been working to bring into being a genuinely democratic, federal union, and to ensure national equality and self-determination for all ethnic nationals, it said.
The ALP/ALA (Arakan Liberation Army) signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement in 2015.
