40 children among over 160 people killed in Pazigyi village airstrike: NUG

National Unity Government (NUG) stated on 16 April that 40 children (under the age of 18) were killed among 168 victims on 11 April Pazigyi village airstrike by junta forces in Kantbalu township of Sagaing division.

Among the young victims, six children were under the age of five, 19 below 14 years and five below 18 whereas 10 victims are yet to be identified with their actual ages.

Details of the victims’ name, age and addresses have been listed by the NUG.

A total of 16 injured individuals have been treated by the NUG's medical unit. Over 300 war victims had left their places and the NUG continued to do relief works.

NUG’s defense minister U Ray Mon said that efforts would be made to restore justice over the mass killing caused by the junta’s air strikes.

“The air strike by junta forces on people's peaceful assembly is unacceptable. The military council deliberately bombed a village as it did not accept the military rule,” he added.

The NUG stated that the number of injured and affected people is too large and it’s beyond the response capacity of the authority.

“The perpetrators (military council) must be made accountable for the crime. The international community should look into the matter and stop selling weapons & jet fuels to the Myanmar military regime so that it can not kill more innocent people in the days to come,” said the NUG.
