27 clashes in Karenni State killed 76 people following the coup

After the Military Council seized the power, the People’s Defense Forces and the Military Council broke out 27 clashes in Karenni State starting from May 21 and the firing of the Military Council killed 63 civilians and 13 PDF troops which killed a total of 76 people, according to the statement of the Karenni National Progressive Party (PKPF) on July 1.



Following the Military coup on February 1, the firing of the Military killed many civilians during the protest against the Military Dictatorship including the firing to the civilians without reasons who were passing by and it included the villagers who carried the food supply, the people who helped the refugees including the children in the refugee camps who died due to the lack of medicine.



According to the PKPF, 13 members of the People's Defence Forces were killed and more than 200 Military Council troops were killed in the clashes.



The cause of the fighting is due to the incursion of the Military Council troops to the KNPP territory which is one of the Ethnics Armed Organisation, due to the resistance of the PDF to the incursion to the villages and wards of civilians by the Military Council, the incursion of PDF to the Military outpost, intercepted attacks to Military Council while deploying the troops, the clashes of both sides, fighting with the PDF during the Military Council tour, the seizure of the police station, the fighting to the border gate and the fighting against the offensive of the Military Council, according to the data conducted by PKPF.



The clashes forced more than a hundred thousand Karenni refugees to flee their homes and the artillery shelling by the Military Council has destroyed more than 50 houses.



The Military Council arrested more than 70 young men returning from youth capacity building training on suspicion of returning from military training, arrested during the protests, arrested entering the house, and arrested while helping the refugees. As the result, a total of 132 have been arrested.  



On June 30, the Military Council released more than 2,300 detainees, including 11 locals from Karenni State.
