190 Religious Healthcare, and Educational Facilities Decimated by Junta in Chin State

Over the past three years since the coup, the Junta's indiscriminate attacks have led to the destruction of more than 190 religious, health, and educational facilities in Chin State, according to the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).

On May 26, CHRO revealed that from the Junta's coup in early February 2021 until May 2024, the regime deliberately conducted airstrikes, arson, and shelling targeting religious sites including churches, healthcare facilities, schools and other educational centers in Chin State, employing these actions as a heinous military tactic.

CHRO alleges that the Junta flagrantly breached the Geneva Conventions by attacking and destroying 116 religious buildings, 26 hospitals and clinics, and 49 schools and learning centers through arson and other means.

According to CHRO's records, over a span of more than three years following the coup, the Junta's airstrikes in Chin State have claimed the lives of 93 civilians, among them 28 children and 20 women. Approximately 200 civilians, including 15 children and 47 women, sustained injuries due to these assaults.

CHRO also called on the international community to work together to ban the importation of arms, ammunition, and aircraft fuels to the Junta, which directly supports its perpetration of war crimes.
