An interesting contest is in the offing in Myitkyina, Kachin State where U Mar Khar, a NDF nominee will take on the Post and Telecommunication Minister Thein Zaw, a USDP candidate, U Aung War, a Kachin State analyst, said.
The NDF opened its party office in Yuzana ward, Myitkyina on 9 October. Two Kachin nominees of the NDF will contest from Pharkant and Myitkyina Townships. Daw Jar Bauk will contest from Pharkant Township.
After the KSPP led by Dr. Tuu Ja a former vice president of Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) was not given approval by the Election Commission, these two Kachin candidates will contest for the NDF in Kachin State.
If these two NDF candidates can campaign effectively in the run up to the polls they may win in Kachin State, U Aung War said.
"I think they can win the election in these two townships because people don't want to vote for the junta-backed USDP. People also don't want to vote for U Khet Htein Nan's UDPKS because it is a shadow party of the USDP. I think people will vote for the NDF, which is fighting for democracy," he added.
U Mar Khar is 27 years hold and a lawyer. Daw Jar Bauk helped locals in a legal battle. They lost their farms in Hu Kaung valley, which was confiscated by Yuzana company.
Until last month, there were only four political parties -the USDP, the NUP, the SNDP and UDPKS but now the NDF will also contest the election in Kachin State.
