The Mro and Khami National Solidarity Organization, MKNSO, opened its head office in Sittwe on 11 March, 2010, to carryout party activities for the forthcoming election scheduled to be held sometime this year, said an Arakanese politician.
"The MKNSO head office was opened at Kaymar Man Dai monastery in Sittwe on 11 March to carry out party activities for the election," he said.
The monastery is owned by an ethnic Khami abbot and is located near Don Tike Kwin grounds in Own Ta Pin Ward of Sittwe.
MKNSO is led by prominent Khami leader U San Tha Aung, an elected MP in the 1990 election from the second Kyauk Taw Township constituency in Arakan State. U San Tha Aung founded the MKNSO on 22 December 1988 and is the current chairman of the party.
"U San Tha Aung is a close associate of the military junta and he attended the Burmese constitutional conference in Nyaunghnapin Camp, in Hmawby Township in Rangoon, where he participated in drafting the constitution as a representative of the Khami nationality," the politician said.
MKNSO won a seat in the 1990 election in Arakan State and the party is expected to put up candidates in the election in Kyauk Taw in Arakan and Paletwa in Chin State.
