Dhaka: Officials of Nasaka, Burma's border security force, and Bangladesh Rifles, BDR, met in a frontier area on the border on Wednesday to discuss some important issues.
The meeting was a zone-commander level meeting held on the Chakdhala frontier in Naikhongchhari Township, opposite Burma's Maungdaw Township, in Bangladesh's Bandarban district.
The two sides discussed the issue of Burma erecting a fence along the border, according to a source.
BDR had earlier lodged a protest with Nasaka for erecting a fence adjacent to the zero point along the border, in contravention of international boundary laws, BDR sources said.
Cross-border smuggling, unabated migration of Muslims from Burma, and maintenance of peace along the border were also discussed during the meeting.
The Nasaka handed over two Bangladesh nationals to BDR, who were held by Nasaka for the past six months, sources said.
A nine-member team from each side attended the meeting.
The Commander of the 15th Battalion of BDR stationed in Naikhongchhari, Lt. Colonel Shafiul Azam, led the Bangladesh side while Colonel Htin Lin led the Nasaka team from Burma.
