Ten passengers were injured when Toyota Dyna truck, which was being used as a bus, overturned whilst travelling between Thandwe and Taunggoup Townships in Arakan State on 31st October.

The accident happened at around 9am near Daw Mya Village about 23.5 miles from Thandwe according to a resident on the scene.

He said: “The truck was a Dyna truck. It went out of control and flipped over whilst coming down the mountain. Ten people were injured, but no one died.”

Five of the victims who were seriously injured are in intensive care at Thandwe Hospital. The five other victims suffered only minor injuries and were sent to the village tract hospital.

Many vehicles use the Thandwe to Taunggoup road because it is on the route to the popular beach of Ngapali, but it is little more than an unpaved jungle road. In some sections the road surface is very bad and uneven which is why there are frequent accidents on the road.
