Newly appointed commander of the Burmese military’s western command, General Aung Lin Dwe, has visited several areas along Burma’s border with Bangladesh. During his visit the commander inspected fences being constructed along the border and military outposts in Arakan’s Maungdaw Township and Chin State’s Palatwa Township.

Official sources  said it was Gen. Aung Lin Dwe’s first visit to the border area since he was appointed to lead Burma’s western command on July 1st, replacing General Ko Ko Naing, who has been transferred to a position in Shan State.

A local resident said the general also visited some Rakhine villages in Maungdaw Township and donated some items to village residents. The villages on Gen. Aung Lin Dwe’s itinerary included Taungbro Sub-Township and the villages of Wet Kyin, Nga Khura, Wrat Nyo Daung, and Kyint Chaung.

Gen. Aung Lin Dwe was appointed to head up the military’s western command immediately after General Maung Maung Own was appointed as Arakan State’s new chief minister.
