The operation was led by the Sittwe district police chief. Now the interrogation with U Kyaw Hla Aung is going on in the police station no 1 in Sittwe, added the police source.

U Kyaw Hla Aung  is accused of attacking Burmese government officials on duty few months back. He is suspected of instigating some  Muslim refugees to attack few immigration officials who went to record data about the families taking refuge in the camps.

The incident took place in April this year where the immigration officials faced assault from the refugees of Thetkalpyin IDP camp in Sittwe. The officials were on duty to register the family lists under a regional census.

The Muslim refugees claimed that the immigration officers forced them to register as ‘Bengali’ (meaning people living in Bangladesh or West Bengal province of India), but they refused to buy it. Finally the situation turned bad to worse and the refugees attacked the Burmese officials by sticks and brickbats.

Few immigration officials sustained severe injuries and they were taken to Sittwe general hospital for treatment.

The police accused and arrested fifteen Muslim individuals including U Kyaw Myint and his U Hla Myint from the village. But the main culprit U Kyaw Hla Aung escaped the police actions and fled.

The police source disclosed that U Kyaw Hla Aung is a former AZG worker and he was arrested in June 2012 for his involvement in the sectarian violence that broke in Arakan, but he could get amnesty form the Burmese President few months later.
