The Bangladesh police in Teknaf said that  Bangladesh Coast Guard and police recovered 24 bodies, said to be of Burmese nationals, along the Teknaf coast off the Bay of Bengal.

Of them, eleven were children, six women and others are adult males.

The police suspected that they were all Burmese citizens after police found 40,000 Burmese kyats from their cloths.

Some local people spotted the bodies afloat along the coastline in the afternoon and then they informed local authorities

The bodies were recovered between 2pm and 6pm from the coast stretching from Sabrang to Baharchhara, the police said.

Bangladesh police said the victims might have been Burma nationals, as a boat carrying some Muslim refugees  who were evacuating ahead of tropical storm Mahasen had capsized off the Pauktaw township in Rakhine state of  Burma  on Monday.

According to sources inside Burma, a boat carrying 138 Muslim refugees from Ngat Chaung refugee camp capsized at the start of a mass evacuation from lower laying area in Arakan state to high land when cyclone Mahasen started approaching the  area. Among then, 43 people are survivors and 95 are still missing.

The bodies recovered in Teknaf coastline were sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital later for autopsy.
