With the apprehension of possible cyclone Mahasen assaults in western Burma, the authority in Sittwe, the capital of Arakan province, has evacuated several families from the low lying areas adjacent to the Bay of Bengal to safer places.
The official sources confirmed that not less than 96 families comprising 388 persons and five 5 monks from the Pinlin Byin village under Sittwe township were shifted to Agit Taw Kon knoll on May 13.
The Army vehicles were also used to move 52 families comprising 365 people from Ray New Su village to No 4th government high school in Sittwe.
As the authority spread the warning about the cyclone through the loudspeakers fixed at various locations and also the government controlled radio, the Army personnel were engaged in the rescue operations.
The Met officials in Burma informed that Mahasen cyclone was formed in the sea and was moving towards north from south at a speed of 10 to 12 kilometer per hour. From the Bay of Bengal, the cyclone may hit the Arakan State and some coastal areas of Bangladesh in the next two days, added the Met officials
