Burmese and Bangladeshi border security forces held a flag meeting on Sunday for four Bangladeshi citizens including three policemen detained by the Burmese Nasaka but Burma did not release them, said border sources.
A two hour long flag meeting was held at Dhekubunia in Burma from 11 AM to 1:10 PM for those Bangladeshi detainees.
A 8 member Bangladeshi BGB delegation team led by Lt Colonel Khalequzzaman, commander of 17 Border Guard Bangladesh(BGB) attended the meeting while a eight member Burmese team led by the deputy director of Nasaka attended.
The Burmese delegation told their Bangladeshi counterparts that four of those detained will be released soon but not at the flag meeting as they need some time to take cross-examination of the Bangladeshi detainees.
Four Bangladeshi citizens were detained by border security forces on Wednesday evening when they entered into Burmese territory to take photographs secretly, said a Nasaka official.
.At that time, three policemen, in civilian dresses entered Burma through the Naikkhongchari border opposite the northern part of Maungdaw.
The four Bangladeshi detained are – Imran Hossain and Irfan Sakker, constable posted at Ukhia TV relay center, Mujibur Rahman, a constable at Kutupalong police camp and a civilian Saiful Islam, a resident of Naikkhongchari township.
“ The four Bangladeshi are yet to be released as the Nasaka authorities were somehow confused about their identities earlier. We informed our Burmese counterparts of their identities in the meeting,” BGB commander Lt Col Khalequzzaman.
He also added that he hoped the Burmese border security force Nasaka will release the four Bangladesh citizens soon without any trial in Burma.
