An Arakanese fisherman was severely wounded by the gunshots allegedly from an unknown Muslim fishing boat at the sea off the coast of Sittwe, the capital in Arakan State, on Monday.
The victim is identified as 34-year old Ko Chin Taunn, son of U Htun Bo Khine of Thaykhone Village in Pauktaw Township.
He has sustained several wounds on his abdomen and legs as a fishing boat of Muslim fishermen came close and opened fire on his boat that was returning after buying fishes from a trawler near Istar also known as Laychantaung Lighthouse around 3 am.
He was said to be together with another three fishermen who included the Helmsman U Than Sein Maung on the boat.
His fellow fishermen said they had seen Bengali Muslim men on the fishing boat that opened fire on their boat by the handmade gun.
Ko Chin Taunn is now being hospitalized in Sittwe by the helps of a local social group that work for voluntary funeral services.
Two Arakanese youths from Saitoke Village in Pauktaw Township had to be hospitalized in Sittwe as well after they were group attacked by the Muslim men while they were finding crabs on an island in the area on 26th of December.
