The police in Sittwe, the capital in Arakan State, have further extended the remand of six Arakanese men who have been arrested from nearby Mrauk-U Township for six more days.
This is said to be the second time the police have extended the remand for them since they have been transferred from Mrauk-U to the Police Station No.1 in Sittwe.
“It has been already 20 days since they have been transferred from Mrauk-U. Now again the police here have extended the remand for them for further interrogations”, said Daw Aye Nu Sein who will serve as a defense lawyer for them in the court.
She said she does not know yet what charges will be filed with them as the police are still continuing their interrogations on them.
The arrestees are identified as U Zaw Moe Naing and U Zaw Moe Tun from Yaingthe Village, U Tin Hla from Laymrothar Village, and U Pray Thein Aung, U Maung Kyaw Hlaing and U Maung Thein from Thanshwinpyin Village in Mrauk-U Township.
“They are still remanded in police custody under the sections 436 and 302(2) of the enacted laws and will be handed over to the prison after they are being filed with charges”, said Daw Aye Nu Sein.
They are said to have been arrested relating to an arson attack on Muslim Yaingthe Village in Mrauk-U Township.
