A father and son from Saw Mae Kyi village were wounded last Thursday after being shot by handmade firearms that was fired from a boat, according to the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP). They were resting on a river bank after returning from a pilgrimage to Sandawshin Pagoda in Pauktaw, Arakan State.
A RNDP member from Pauktaw told Narinjara that U Lapyi Oo and his son were shot by Muslims.
Narinjara hasn’t been able to confirm this information with the father and son who were allegedly shot.
U La Pyi Oo is reportedly in serious condition after suffering from several shots on his chest, groin and other parts of his body. He has been sent for medical treatment in Sittwe. U La Pyi Oo's son is being hospitalized in Pauktaw.
The Burmese authorities ordered all Arakan State residents to surrender all homemade weapons, including firearms, machetes, spears, arrows and slingshots by Nov. 3.
