About 180 handmade guns were seized following the mob violence that erupted last week in Arakan State, according to a statement from the Presidential office.
The confiscated guns that fire gun powder were reported to be locally made after the June sectarian violence and used last week.
U Aung Mra Kyaw, who is a member of Sittwe State Parliament, said local authorities are keeping a close watch on all the iron shops in the state. Security forces had conducted several raids in Sittwe.
Purchases of iron materials such as pipes and rods that can be used for making guns, spears and machetes have increased since the mob violence in June. Now new restrictions have been imposed for selling these materials.
According to the latest statics released by the government on Oct.31; 89 people have been killed, 136 people wounded, 5351 houses burned down and 32,231 people have been made homeless from the latest violence.
The UN reported that the majority of those displaced were Muslims.
