Burma- Bangladesh air route to be opened soon

Burma and Bangladesh will open a direct air link soon to connect Rangoon and Dhaka, said the Bangladesh Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Faruk Khan.

He said it on Thursday at a function on the occasion of the first anniversary of Bangladesh-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BMCCI) at a hotel in Dhaka.

He said, “The flight will be opened soon on Bangladesh- Burma route.”

All the processes are now at final stage to start the new route, Faruk said.“Any national or foreign agency can operate flights on this route,” he said.

At present, travellers from both countries have to go between two capitals- Rangoon and Dhaka – transit through Bangkok costing much time and money.

A lawmaker from Burma U Yen Win also attended as a guest at the function on the occasion of the first anniversary of Bangladesh-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BMCCI).

Burma and Bangladesh have been working to resume a direct air link after Bangladesh airline Biman stopped its flight between Dhaka and Yangon in 2007 due to economic loss. 

Burma has since 1949 signed bilateral aviation accords with 43 countries and regions.
There are 14 foreign airlines flying to Rangoon which comprise Air China, China outhern Airline, Thai Airways International, Indian Airlines, Qatar Airways,Silk Air, Malaysian Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Mandarin, Jetstar Asia, Phuket irline, Thai Air Asia and Vietnam Airlines.
