Sittwe: Three ministers from the Arakan State government have denounced the Union Election Commission's ruling against a representative from the people's parliament in Arakan who won in last year's election with a majority of votes in his constituency.
The three ministers denounced the ruling against U Aung Kyaw Zan, a representative of the people's parliament, in a legal statement. The statement was issued by 18 representatives of the Arakan State parliament , including the ministers.
The three ministers from Arakan are U Tha Luu Chay, Minister of Power and Industry, U Aung Than Tin, Minister of Forestry and Mining, and U Kyaw Thein, Minister of Agriculture and Husbandry.
The three ministers, along with the other 15 representatives from Arakan, denounced the Union Election Commission after a jury of the commission's tribunal ruled against U Aung Kyaw Zan, a memeber of the people's parliament in Pauk Taw Township in Arakan State.
In the statement, they described the UEC's decision as unfair and unjust, and stated they were unable to accept the ruling because it is an affront to voters by disregarding their desires and votes in the last election. Moreover, they mentioned that there are many grievances of MP U Aung Kyaw Zan after he was dismissed from parliament. Because of this they condemned the ruling of the election commission.
Narinjara tried to contact the ministers to ask about the issue over the telephone but failed to reach anyone at their office.
U Aung Kyaw Zan won 30,550 votes while his rival U Tun Aung Khine received 11,550 votes for the seat in the people's parliament in Pauktaw Township in the elections held on 7 November, 2010.
Htun Aung Khine, the candidate from the Union Solidarity and Development Party, accused the RNDP's Aung Kyaw Zan of "defaming" the previous military government and the USDP during his election campaign.
Nine MPs from the Rakhine National Development Party had cases filed against them with the election commission earlier this year by rivals from the USDP on charges of using fraud to win the elections. The jury for the commission, in it's final hearing on the case, ruled against U Aung Kyaw Zan, but found in favor of the other eight representatives.
The members of the people's parliament and the national parliament from the RNDP also denounced and objected to the judgment of the tribunal and the commission against their colleague U Aung Kyaw Zan in a statement issued on 9 September, 2011.
The RNDP won 35 seats in the parliaments in last year's 7 November election.
