Dhaka: Six Burmese citizens were arrested in a hill district of Bangladesh near the western Burmese border for entering Bangladesh illegally, according to the Bangladeshi news agency, UNB.
The Burmese citizens were arrested at Kaptai jetty in Kaptai Township in the Ramgamati district yesterday while they were entering a ghat at around 10am via an engine-run boat leaving for another township, Bilaichhari.
They were identified as Nasir Hossain, Khairul Amin, Md. Naim, Md. Syed, Md. Yunus and Md. Janaid, the news agency said.
Tipped off Kaptai police, aided by an intelligence agency officer, intercepted the boat and arrested the Burmese citizens.
Police also arrested Deb Chandra Tongchonggako, a local Bangladeshi resident, on charges of helping them enter the country illegally.
According to local refugee sources, many refugees in the Burmese refugee camps located at Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh are leaving for Jammu Kashmir, a Muslim state in Western India, near the Pakistani border, in order to pursue better living standards.
Dr Rofit, who was once a Muslim refugee in Kotualong refugee camp, told Narinjara over the telephone that he has now arrived at a refugee camp in Jammu Kashmir where there are over 3500 Burmese Muslim refugees, as well as other Burmese refugees including, for example, Chin Nationals.
