Bandarban: Two Burmese nationals were arrested by the Bangladesh army in a remote village of Bangladesh located near the Burmese border in the evening of last Friday, said an eye witness and police.
Police officer Badsha Mia, Officer in Charge of the Ruma police station told the media that a patrol team of the Bangladeshi army raided Ruma and arrested them there.
However, local witnesses said that the two Burmese nationals – U Thein Maung, 36 and U Sein Tha Maung, 55, were arrested in front of a grocery store in the Ruma market when the army team came to Ruma village in order to investigate a local case.
“While they were sitting on a bench in the Ma Aye Thein grocery store, they were arrested by Bangladeshi army personnel,” the witness said.
The Burmese Nationals are from Arakan state but it is still unknown why they were in Bangladesh.
The army later handed them over to the Ruma police station under Bandarban Hill district in southern Bangladesh in order to take legal action.
According to police sources, the Burmese nationals were sent to Bandarban prison yesterday where police filed charges against them for illegally entering Bangladesh.
