New Delhi - Two Burmese nationals were arrested in Northeast India on Saturday for illegal possession of ammunition and materials for making arms, police said. They are being detained.
The duo, identified as Libtung, a woman aged 29, and Sawang Kanynak (21) were arrested by Sonari police station on the inter-state border of Assam and Nagaland in Northeast India.
"Both of them are now detained in Sibsagar prison and have been charged under the Arms Act and the Foreigners Act," police officer in Sonari police station told Mizzima.
The officer said 114 packets of ammunition, five packets of explosives, a packet of gun nozzle and trigger were found on the two Burmese nationals.
"They are suspected to be arms suppliers," the officer added.
The two Burmese nationals were identified as residents of Louis Basti in Hkam Thi Township in Sagaing Division, North-Western Burma, he added.
