The Ministry of Information has signed new contracts with Sky Net, Forever and FM radio companies to earn income from them over time, U Myint Htwe, deputy director-general of the Ministry of Information told Mizzima on 24th October.
“The ministry and broadcast media previously shared profits from the sales of TV receivers and monthly subscribers. Now, the ministry allows them to install TV machinery at re-transmission stations in 20 townships and FM machinery in 10 townships for their broadcasting work and collects profits for the designated period,” he said.
The new contracts were signed on 23rd October. The ministry will collect K164 million each from TV and FM companies for permission to install their machinery at the ministry’s TV-retransmission stations.
Previously, the companies shared the profits after paying tax to the State. According to the new contracts, they have to pay the fees to the ministry, with fines for late payment.
The ministry has granted TV broadcast permits to Sky Net and Forever companies and radio broadcast permits to City FM, Mandalay FM, Cherry FM, Shwe FM, Pyinsawady FM, Padamya FM, Bagan FM and Thazin Radio. New applicants will be able to apply after enactment of the TV and Broadcast Law.
