A new K5000 note, improved to prevent forgery will be issued from October 1, said a Central Bank of Myanmar press release dated September 18.
The release said the size, design and colour of the new note would match the current K5000 note, except for a “different type of security thread, a new watermark image and a protective layer of varnish on both sides of the banknote.”
It added that the existing notes of this value that were introduced in October 2009 would remain legal tender.
“To properly evolve the market-orientated economic system, the Central Bank of Myanmar has issued currency notes which carry a high quality security status of international standard,” said the release.
