Members of the parliamentary constitution amendment implementation committee have finalised their proposals for changes to the charter, panel members told Mizzima on September 9.

“The chapters have been amended and all that is left is to review and proof the document,” said Pyithu Hluttaw MP Khun Maung Thaung (Pa-O National Organisation, Pinlaung Township, Shan State).

Khun Maung Thaung said the proposed amendments concerned constitutional provisions about the legislative powers of the hluttaws in the states, regions and autonomous regions and the power to collect taxation.

Another committee member, Pyithu Hluttaw MP Sai Bo Aung (Shan National Democratic Party, Muse Township, Shan State), expressed qualified satisfaction about the proposals

"Most of the important points have been amended, though not all of them," Sai Bo Aung said.

The proposals are expected to be submitted to the next session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, due to begin later this month.

The 31-member committee was appointed by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on February 5.
