Government negotiators have proposed three-day meeting with representatives of armed ethnic groups later this month to discuss finalising a national ceasefire agreement.

The Union Peace-making Work Committee has proposed a three-day meeting with the Nationwide Ceasefire Co-ordinating Team beginning on September 22.

NCCT leader Naing Han Thar told Mizzima on September 9 that the group was yet to decide if it accepted the proposed dates.
Speaking after an NCCT meeting to discuss its negotiating position at future talks, Naing Han Thar said the issues remaining to be discussed included the implementation of a ceasefire monitoring mechanism after a ceasefire takes effect.

The next round of ceasefire talks would also need to agree on the groups to participate in a political dialogue after the ceasefire is signed, Naing Han Thar said.
