Leaders of the National League for Democracy and the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society group held talks on democratic reforms in Nay Pyi Taw on February 4 but declined to provide details to the media.

The 40-minute meeting with NLD chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other party members produced beneficial results, said 88 Generation Peace and Open Society spokesperson, U Jimmy.

The two sides would issue a joint communiqué about the meeting in the coming days, U Jimmy said.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society group said the two organizations would closely cooperate with each at this “important time of our transitional period”.

As well as Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the NLD was represented at the meeting by her personal assistant, Dr Tin Mar Aung, and Pyithu Hluttaw MP U Phyo Zayar Thaw  (Pobathiri, Mandalay Region).

The 88 Generation Peace and Open Society Group was represented by U Min Ko Naing, U Ko Ko Gyi, U Pyone Cho, U Mya Aye and U Jimmy.

Members of the two organizations last met on Independence Day, January 4, when they held talks about plans for a national reconciliation conference.
