“China is growing anxious over Aung San Suu Kyi’s frequent visits to Europe,” Khin San Hlaing said. “Chinese officials are concerned that she is pigeonholing her foreign relations efforts.”

During the Beijing meetings, the CAIFC also questioned the Myanmar delegation about Myanmar’s constitution. They expressed concern over the fact that it bars Suu Kyi from running for president and questioned whether or not it could be amended before the next general election.

Discussions also included talks with former deputy foreign minister Mr. Wan Yin Fan about potential energy investments.

The Myanmar delegation was led by Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) MP Ye Tun and included representatives from the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMRDP), the National Unity Party (NUP), the Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP), and the NLD. They arrived in China on 27 October and concluded their visit on 2 November.
