Myanmar raises security warning against bomb attacks

The Myanmar government has raised nationwide security warning against series of bomb attacks over the past several days in the areas of Phyu, Toungoo, Yangon, Mandalay and Sagaing.

According to state radio and TV, two series of bombs blast in a guest house and a car parking area near a  pagoda at about two hours' interval in Sagaing region on Tuesday before dawn without casualties.

The two bombs with the prior determined as a digital one exploded at 03:30 a.m. and 05:45 a.m. respectively.

Over the past five days since Friday, there were series of bomb explosions or defused in these regions.

On Thursday evening, a home-made bomb was found on a passenger bus in Phyu, Bago region, while on Friday night a bomb explosion at a guest house in Taungoo of the same Bago region killed two people, a man and a woman, and injuring one other.

Another minor explosion which occurred at Zawbwagyigon roadside bus stop kiosk in Yangon's Insein township on Saturday midnight, destroyed an advertisement billboard and a bench at the bus stop.

More bomb explosions near a container parking on the roadside in Yangon's Thakayta injured two children on Sunday evening,

On Monday, even more bombs were found in Mandalay's Golden Duck Restaurant and Yangon's Western Part II Restaurant. That exploded at Yangon's Traders  Hotel at the 9th floor on the day's midnight injured an American female citizen and injured two local nationals.

With regard to the series of bomb attacks, the state radio and TV on Tuesday urged the public to keep vigilance against more bomb attacks, calling for cooperation to expose the criminals as quickly as possible.

Deputy Minister of Hotels and Tourism U Tin Shwe, at an urgent meeting with hoteliers in Yangon, called for tightening hotel security measures.

Spokesman of the President's Office U Ye Htut, who is also deputy information minister, said in his website Tuesday that one suspect in connection with the series of incidents had been arrested.

U Ye Htut also commented on Monday that the plotting of such incidents at a time when Myanmar takes ASEAN chair and is about to host Southeast Asian Games aims to tarnish the image of Myanmar in the international arena.
