Ko Mya Aye of the 88 Students Generation group has told Mizzima that Myanmar authorities will assist in clearing procedures for political exiles who wish to return to the country for next month’s 25th anniversary commemoration of the 8-8-88 incident.

“We, the 88 Generation, negotiated on behalf of all political groups, including those outside the country who wish to return to take part in the Silver Jubilee,” he said. “They pledged to us they will assist exiles who have visa difficulties.”

Ko Mya Aye said that individuals who want to attend the event must submit a note of their personal history—which includes the year they left the country, the name of third countries they had lived, and the name of any organization they worked for—to the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society Group.

The commemoration ceremony, to be known as the Silver Jubilee, will be held at MCC hall in Yangon. More than 20 political groups have formed committees and held weekly meetings since May to organize the event.

Kyaw Ko Ko, a member of the All Burma Federation of Student Unions, said, “We are all looking forward this event on August 6- 8.”
