Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr has announced he will be travelling to Myanmar next week to meet with the country's officials, according to Australian media.
Carr is expected to hold talks with President Thein Sein and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, as well as business representatives, said Australia Network News on Friday.
“Myanmar's ongoing move toward democratic reform, Australia-Myanmar economic ties, international development assistance in education and human rights including the situation in Rakhine State, will be on the agenda,” said the report.
In March, Australia announced it was easing restrictions on Myanmar to pursue closer defense relations.
Australia is also a major donor of aid to Myanmar.
