The Myanmar government discussed bringing Myanmar refugees in a Malaysian camp backhome during a meeting in Naypyitaw on Monday following talks with the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs.
“There are 10,000 Myanmar workers at Putrayjaya City in Malaysia. We have discussed with the Malaysian authorities to transfer the detained Myanmar workers and to tell us if there are Malaysian people detained in Myanmar,” saidMaungMyint, the Myanmar Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security.
Currently, there are 80,000 illegal Myanmar workers in Malaysia. The Minister said that the Malaysian government is providing an ID certificates to Myanmar people who want to returnhome. So far, 9,886 Myanmar workers have received the certificate.
The Minister has asked job agencies to stop sending Myanmar workers to Malaysia.
There are more than 400,000 Myanmar migrant workers in Malaysia. About 300,000 are legal workers, while about 40,000 are illegal and about 90,000 are in various processes of refugee status
Between three and eight people have been killed in attacks on Myanmar people in Malaysia since violence broke out on May 30.
