General Min Aung Hlaing, 54, has served as acting joint chief of staff of the Army, Navy and Air Force since June 2010, when he was promoted from commander of No. 2 Bureau of Special Operations of Defence Services.

Recent former posts include the Defence Ministry, No. 2 Bureau of Special Operations.

He is a graduate of the  19th Intake of Defence Services Academy and a graduate of the  4th Intake of the  National Defence College.

As a major general, he served as the commander of the Triangle Command. In 2009, he led negotiations with cease-fire groups in association with former Military Affairs Security Commandant Lieutenant General Ye Myint.
