10 November 2010: Soldiers of the Burmese Army’s LIB 304 based in Matupi town tried to rape the wife of Pu Thangluai, a committee member of the National Democratic Force (NDF) party on Sunday evening. She was assaulted and has been hospitalized.

Pu Thangluai’s wife (30) was going back home from her farm just after sun set. Four soldiers of the LIB 304 accosted her and tried to rape her, while she was crossing the camp gate. She was hit with stones and hurt her head. Fortunately she could escape.

“Soldiers immediately went back to their camp after they saw her head bleeding,” said an eyewitness of local woman.

Khonumthung News cannot contact direct to the authority of Army’s LIB 304 and the victim’s family because of phone line problem.

The woman was hospitalized in Matupi civil hospital and she received five stitches on her head.

Although the military personnel tried to negotiate with the victim’s family, there has been no response from the family’s side. Some said that they might move court.

It is learnt, that soldiers of LIB 304 tease girls, who cross their gate, as the Matupi High School is located near the camp.
