The USDP is going all out to ensure victory in the polls. It has donated Kyat one lakh and 200 bags of cement among other things to a sub-high school in Letpanchaung village in Kalemyo Township, Sagaing division. People are convinced that the funds are coming from the junta to finance the party’s election campaign.
“Normally such financing, as done to the school, is by the government. The USDP is using government funds to woo people for votes in the election,” said a local.
The donation was organized by General Thurah Aye Myint, who has taken off his uniform of the Ministry of Sports. The party will campaign in northwest areas of Kalemyo Township.
“The USDP campaigners were welcomed by Lushai youths with the cultural bamboo dance. The party donated Kyat one lakh and 200 bags of cement, eight rain proof sheets and six balls to the school. USDP in our village also got a digital camera,” said a teacher in Letpanchaung village.
Besides, USDP donated Kyat 10,000 to the first prizewinner and Kyat 7000 to the second prizewinner in the football match in Tayakung village after the farming season before harvesting called the ‘Thun Tong’ peih (close) festival.
The USDP did not organize poll rallies in the area but concentrated on donation to the local people to woo voters.
“People are not interested in voting for the USDP. We are only interested in the Chin party given we are Chins,” he added.
The USDP is leaving no stones unturned to reach voters. It also donated 150 bags of cement for the Sechi Bridge on the main road in northwest Kalemyo Township and a ball each for the primary school in Tayakung and Chantachi villages.
The Mizo Welfare Organization, which represents the Lushai tribe in Kale-Kabaw area in Sagaing division looks upon the military (Tatmataw) as a parent. It will stand by the Tatmataw, cooperate with the USDA, abide by the polices of Tatmataw, support the USDP in the November elections and highlight the culture and literature of the Lushai tribes and Chin ethnics.
Letpanchaung village has 2000 households and is a big village of Chin people. More than 600 households are Lushai families and 1500 are Falam Chin, Hakha Chin and Tiddim Chin families.
