SPDC office converted to State Assembly office in Chin state

The Chin State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) office will be used as the State Assembly office in Hakha from October 2.

“We are not sure whether a separate office will be built as the Assembly House later. The SPDC’s office is being renovated for Ministers,” said a government employee.

It is learnt that 20 employees from Naypyidaw will work in the state assembly office with another 40 local staff, already selected by SPDC office authorities in June 2010.

“Twenty officers will be transferred here to work in the Assembly House, so we have to accommodate them in our office,” said a SPDC office staff.

The regime has ordered 60 families of employees who are occupying the SPDC office quarters to shift to other places by 15 October. If they fail they have to pay Kyat 10,000 per day as penalty.

“Of the 60 families, 42 can shift to other houses, but the rest cannot find new houses to rent as vacant houses are very rare in Hakha town. They are not getting any financial help for shifting house from the government,” said an employee from the SPDC office.

The Chin State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) office is located in Chin Oo Si block in Hakha town since the time of the Burma Socialist Program (BSP). But now it is ready to be used as the State Assembly house after the general election on November 7.

However, some politicians believe that most Chin people will not cast votes for any other political parties in Chin state as the National League of Democracy (NLD) party and the Chin State National Democracy party is boycotting the election in Burma.
